TSL Turtons is one of the four case studies for this research. I’m calling it “The Archivist in Residence”. We are of course familiar with the tried and tested phenomenon that is the artist in residence. This nuanced archival twist offers itself to exploring other aspects of whatever organisation it is attached to. Of course to make new work, but perhaps using what is found within the organisation as a point of departure.
It is an interesting time for this company bringing together as they are all the groups concerns under one roof on Effingham Road. The sheer logistical problems this represents will take some resolving.
My particular concerns for the study are the apprentices, many of the workforce who command some of the key skills are very close to retirement and the company’s longevity will rely on these skills being passed on.
