The Campaign

In the build up to the 2015 UK General Election, I followed Oliver Coppard and his campaign team from the Labour Party, as they took on the then Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, for Sheffield Hallam’s seat in Parliament.

Sheffield Hallam is the only constituency in South Yorkshire that isn’t a Labour stronghold, and has not had a Labour MP since 1885. Volunteers, supporters and activists put in hundreds of hours to the Better for Sheffield campaign, which in addition to Oliver’s own positive energy and non-stop campaigning, secured thousands of extra votes for Labour in this area, more so than at any other time in history.  Although they lost out to Clegg by just a short margin, the dedication and commitment of both Oliver and the campaign team ensured that the status quo in this area has been challenged.
